Catherine "Kay" Haines, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 14, 2024, in South Boston, at the age of 93. Born on September 30, 1930, in Boston, MA, she lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.

Kay, as she was affectionately known to all, was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Haines. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Patricia Ridge, and was predeceased by Patricia's husband, John. Kay's love extended to her siblings, including her cherished twin sister, Frances Owens of South Boston, and she was preceded in death by her other siblings, Elizabeth Higgins, Claire Cicerone, and James Mahoney. Her role as "Nana" was one of her greatest joys, as she doted on her grandchildren Colleen Hall, Patricia Johnson and her husband Stephen, Matthew Ridge and his wife Nikki, and Kaitlyn Ross and her husband Kasey. Her great-grandchildren, Ethan, Chase, Maddy, Avery, and Reya, also brought immense happiness to her life. Kay's warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by her numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and a host of friends.

Raised in Roxbury, Kay later moved to Dorchester and South Boston, where she dedicated her life to creating a welcoming and loving home for her family. Although she did not pursue a career outside the home, her tireless commitment to her family was her life's work and her pride.

A woman of unwavering faith, Kay was an avid churchgoer who found strength and solace in her beliefs. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, guiding her actions and interactions with those around her. She was a familiar face to many as she walked around Broadway Street in South Boston, always ready with a friendly greeting or a helping hand.

Kay's twin sister, Frances, was not only her sibling but also her lifelong companion and friend. Together, they enjoyed going into town, sharing countless memories and experiences that only twins can fully appreciate. Spending time with her family was Kay's greatest pleasure, particularly during the holidays. Christmas and Easter were special times for her, filled with the joy of family gatherings and the creation of cherished traditions.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she embraced every opportunity to be involved in their lives, from attending school events to hosting sleepovers. Kay's home was always open to their friends, and she became a beloved figure to many in the younger generations.

Described as faith-filled, loving, and friendly, Kay's legacy is one of enduring love and selfless devotion. Her gentle spirit and generous heart left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness and the enduring strength of familial bonds.

Catherine "Kay" Haines will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to live on through the many lives she touched. Her example of love, faith, and friendship will remain a guiding light for her family and all who knew her. As we say farewell to this remarkable woman, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy of love will continue to inspire us all.
