GALBATO, Eileen A. (Leahy) of Fairhaven, formerly of Hyde Park, June 19th, age 93. Beloved wife of the late Vincent A. of 70 years.Ellen was born on 25 January 1925 in a traditional thatched roof Irish cottage on Bog Road, Clogheen, Clonakilty, Ireland. She was born in the cottage where her parents, Daniel Leahy and Hannah (Fitzpatrick) Leahy were living. The cottage was adjacent to the cottage where her paternal grandparents, Jeremiah Leahy and Ellen (Coffee) Leahy resided. Nora Fitzpatrick, her maternal grandmother was present at her birth. Daniel, Hannah, and Eileen left Cobh, Ireland on 20 September 1925, to immigrated to the United States. They travelled on board the ocean liner RMS Scythia. They arrived in Boston on 28 September 1925. Eileen became a US citizen on 16 January 1933.
Devoted mother of Daniel and his wife Karen of North Easton, Vincent of Fairhaven, Brian S. of Florida, Debra Costello and her husband Daniel of Hyde Park, Lynda Galbato and her spouse Michelle of Abington and the late Eileen Galbato. Cherished sister of Theresa Wanders of Florida, Kathleen Gillis of Arizona and Geraldine Basabe of Arizona. Loving "Nana" of 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. Funeral from the Carroll-Thomas Funeral Home, 22 Oak Street, Hyde Park, MA Saturday morning at 9 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Most Precious Blood Church at 10. Visiting hours Friday evening from 4-8 PM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment at New Calvary Cemetery. Please in lieu of flowers, all donations can be made to ALZ.org.
